Septic Tanks
Septic Tanks consist of two main components,
a watertight underground tank which raw sewage is fed and a soak away in which the wastewater is released. Direct discharge to a ditch or watercourse should not occur.
A Septic Tank provides suitable conditions for settlement, storage and decomposition of solids, as wastewater from the inlet flow’s in to the tank.
There are three layers in a Septic Tank :
A crust/scum layer of floating solids
Liquid sewage which the solids have settled out
The sludge which is at the bottom of the tank
